Shame - We Don't Know Her!
Is shame holding you back?
Dearest Trooper,
I need you to sit down and give me your hands (if you're into the touch thing, if not that’s cool too) because we have something kinda big to talk about. I mean this with all the love and sincerity I can muster…shame is the silent killer of both your dreams and your growth, and I want to talk about it.
You remember in the Men In Black movies where the aliens slip on other peoples skin and walked around undetected? Disguised to the naked eye and freely walked amongst the general public, but there were tells that they were not truly human. The way they talked, their eyes, the way they smelled…
Shame is weirdly similar because the voices in our head that scream that we are not good enough, not smart enough, not small enough, too loud, too big, not worth shit…..looks eerily like us. The noise that is so loud in our brain seems to be coming from us, but truly it’s just a 6 eyed, 12 headed, slimy green monster that is living in a meat suit that looks creepily like us.
So here is my challenge….I want you to look closer at that voice. I want you to pull that little imposter aside and look for the tells that it’s not actually you. Because here is one thing I know, shame is taught, fed to us from birth and tainting the water we swim in. The system we are birthed into is not built to lift us up, it’s built to hold us down.
From the media we ingest, the noise we hear about the worth our bodies hold solely based on their size, our moms and aunts and fathers and partners telling us that we aren’t the right size, the algorithms we scroll, the airplane seats we are forced into, the diet culture that is so shoved down our throats….it’s all built to hold us down. And instead of recognizing it for the alien trash that it is, we internalize it and make it our own. Hide it in a meat suit that looks just like us that becomes our biggest stumbling block.
That little fucker is holding you back, stunting your dreams, stopping your growth and it’s time for a reckoning! Because once you can distinguish what voice is actually yours, and what voice is the alien trapped in a disguise that looks like you, that’s when the growth happens!
Shame no longer gets your joy, your pleasure, your future, your dreams.
It’s time to reclaim the space in your head that is set aside to be your biggest hater. It’s time to pluck that alien out of your head and recognize it for what it is….a big old mean mother fucking liar. Who deserves to be put on a canoe and run down the river.
