Fatphobia Is Alive and Well
It's time to burn the system to the ground
Good Morningggggg!!
Happy Monday you little cutie! I hope you woke up today and decided to take on the world. I know I sure did. After watching the Super Bowl last night, one thing became very very clear….fatphobia is alive and well, and we’ve got work to do. Buckle up so we can burn it down.
I would hedge my bet and say that well over 150 million dollars was spent on weight loss ads in that 60 minute game alone. What we witnessed last night was the weight loss industrial complex at its peak. We saw ads from His and Hers, Ro, Novo Nordisk, Eli Lily and the Eat Real Food campaign. Each commercial that aired cost those companies 8-10 MILLION dollars per 30 second commercial. Let that sink in. These companies are operating in monopoly money and are allowed to do so because our country was built on a fat phobic foundation. It is the bedrock of who we are.
We have world class athletes like Seryna Williams talking about their 30+ pound weight loss over the last year. Ro took the time to compare her before body to her current body in the hopes that you could see how much “better” she is now. Like we didn’t watch her dominate across the world in that previous body. Become the most awarded female athlete in her field. In a body that was thick and strong and scientifically perfect to compete at the highest level in her profession. How the FUCK are we shaming that body?!? Be so for real.
