Capturing the Perfect Spicy Selfie in Front of Your Christmas Tree!
A quick and dirty tutorial for getting the perfect naughty elf selfie just in time for St. Nick
Happy Holidays my love!
It is, without a doubt, my most favorite time of year. There is just something so special about the twinkle lights, the warm cozy house and the palpable feeling of joy. I am a Christmas tree up all year kinda girlie because I love the twinkle lights so damn much!
Now, the tricky part about Christmas lights, or twinkle lights in general, is that they are super hard to capture in an image. There are lots of little things at play that you need to take into consideration, but no stress, here is your quick and dirty tutorial on getting the perfect naughty elf photo in front of your tree….just in time for Christmas Eve!
First and foremost we need to talk about lighting. When you stand in front of a tree, the camera in your phone has to make a decision to expose for one of two things in the image…you, or the tree. The dilemma is if it exposes for you, the tree lights will be blown out and you won’t be able to see the details of the lights. If it exposes for the tree, you are just a giant blob of shadow in front.
The solution: you need to tell your camera to lock the exposure for the tree and then add fill light that brings you back into focus! Check out this brief tutorial to see how it’s done!
